Golf Style Trend 2017 | Burgundy Riches
Posted at August 23, 2017
Our chief style editor takes you through the key golf style trend of the Fall 2017 season so far with ideas on how best to wear "Burgundy Riches" on the golf course.
Golf Style Trend | Burgundy Riches
This season, burgundy is very much the new khaki green of yesteryear. It's a seasonal colour, autumnal in its complexion, but one which is supremely versatile and really easy on the eye. Two golf brands, in particular, have embraced these deeper hues of red for Fall 2017 - both equally playing a significant role in bringing the "Burgundy Riches" trend to fruition.
Hugo Boss, probably the most fashion-oriented brand in the game, have introduced the new "Port Royale" colour to the fairways and feature it heavily throughout their campaign imagery. As one of the most popular brands in menswear, Hugo Boss are so often considered as the fashion leaders when it comes to golf apparel and, with ambassadors including Martin Kaymer and Henrik Stenson, many believe them to be the most stylish brand in golf today.
Not far behind them would be Nike Golf - the second of our brands to have utilised a red-wine inspired palette. "Bordeaux" has just been introduced within their latest colour flow and has already been worn at a major championship; both Alex Noren and Thorbjorn Olesen (above) opted for the Bordeaux colour option of Aeroreact blade collar shirt at Quail Hollow earlier this month.

So, how best to wear the trend this season?
First up, we take inspiration from one of our favourite campaign images to feature Henrik Stenson this season (above). For the tail end of summer, the deep rouge tone of the Port Royale can be freshened up with a blast of white on the bottom half - thus keeping the look bright enough to wear in the late summer sunshine. Keep the rest of the outfit simple with white shoes and accessories and let your choice of burgundy shirt do the talking.
Golf Style Trend | Burgundy x Navy
Martin Kaymer is another of the Hugo Boss ambassadors who always looks sharp on tour and we love this autumnal blend of burgundy with dark navy blue. The white belt here may look slightly garish, but there are many other belt styles available which would help blend the top and bottom halves of the the outfit seamlessly. A smart Veeh Pro v-neck sweater would complete this look perfectly; a timeless style which you can throw on in the slightly cooler temperatures of the coming months.
Golf Style Trend | Burgundy x Red
The designers at Hugo Boss are renowned for trying something different every year and this season, their colour palette is certainly unorthodox. "Barbados Cherry" is a bright red hue which they have integrated with a selection of their Port Royale shirt styles and actually pairs up extremely well, in our opinion. Our favourite is this Paddy Pro 3 (above) which also boasts graphic detail at the shoulder - further helping to "pop" the shirt's look.
Consider marrying up this bright Barbados Cherry red with Port Royale for a fresh burst of colour this season, with a number of possible combinations available throughout the latest Boss FA17 range.
Golf Style Trend | Burgundy x Grey
The latest flow of Nike Golf apparel has introduced an autumnal colour palette to the neutral, core classics and offers up a perfect harmony between Bordeaux and Wolf Grey this season. We have already seen Thorbjorn Olesen and Alex Noren wearing this exact combination at the PGA Championship, while we would also recommend trying out Bordeaux alongside "dark grey" for an equally effortless outfit.
Golf Style Trend | Burgundy x Black
Our final selection is perhaps the most obvious, syncing up Bordeaux with Black. This particular mix features within one of our favourite shirt styles from Nike Golf (the NK Dry Raglan blade, above) and allows for a super stylish, clean and sophisticated autumnal look. Choose any of the four Nike polos available in this red grape colour and complete the look accordingly - easily done with so many black styles available throughout the Nike range of trousers, shorts, shoes and accessories.
