Best Golf Mid Layers - Top Ten Spring 2016
Posted at April 20, 2016
We highlight the ten styles which we believe are the best golf mid layers from across the current 2016 golf clothing collections this Spring.
Best Golf Mid Layers - Style Editor Picks
At the time of writing, there are no fewer than 84 styles to choose from within the "golf mid layers" category online at Golfposer. With this in mind, it actually makes it incredibly difficult to whittle this significantly large number down to our best ten styles - let alone attempt to rank them in order. Instead, we've picked our best golf mid layers for the specific functions of style, warmth, comfort and value - alongside our justification for each inclusion.
Best Golf Mid Layers - For Style
The Nike Dri-Fit Flex Knit garments have been simply outstanding so far in 2016. Having been worn by almost every Nike athlete on tour, the Flex Knit sweaters come in either a V Neck or Quarter Zip pullover option and look incredibly flattering on any body shape. We don't all have Rory McIlroy's physique, but that doesn't matter. Just ask Tommy Fleetwood.
Hugo Boss golf clothing is some of the best in the game, without question. A quarter zip pullover design with signature Hugo Boss branding at the left chest and neck - here with contrast detail featured across the chest and an invisible coating for protection and water repellency. Season upon season, we see the styling of the Hugo Boss Zelchior improve and, whilst this particular design has been available since the end of last year, the fresh new colours of the light Vallarta blue, Nightwatch navy and Training white allow for justification to include this style in our Spring 2016 "best mid layers" edition. It's here on merit, because it's just that good.
Lyle & Scott is making a huge comeback in golf and their knitwear is just as good as ever. Classic styling with V Neck and quarter zip options available - Lyle & Scott golf knitwear provides some of the most stylish golf sweaters thanks to the impressive fit, the undeniable quality and the prominent Gold Eagle on the chest. That brandmark is a sign of something great, as if we had to tell you style savvy golfers that.
Best Golf Mid Layers - For Warmth
Puma Golf - PWRWARM Mid Layers
Last year, we featured Puma PWRWARM technology in our best golf mid layers for Autumn 15 and even ranked the colourblock zip mid layer as number one from any brand. Puma Golf introduced their internal ceramic prints into their golf clothing range (having originated in Puma Running) and simply haven't looked back. PWRWARM technology now features heavily throughout their 2016 mid layer range and has been receiving just as much praise and admiration as it was last year.
Certainly one of the most popular styles amongst golfers in the UK, Galvin Green Insula golf wear offers super lightweight warmth thanks to the thermal chambers, located within the fabric and designed to lock in body heat. Insula golf layers also offer a high level of breathability and added stretch for maximum comfort, whilst many different styles are now available from within the 2016 collection. Galvin Green golf clothing features consistently within our "best of" categories thanks for the timeless designs and quality craftsmanship which is apparent with nearly everything the brand produces. There's just something about these Swedish fashion brands at the moment.
Best Golf Mid Layers - For Comfort
Talking of excellent Swedish fashion brands, Oscar Jacobson are still producing some top quality golf wear and have seriously impressed us with their collection for Spring 2016, the shirts selection especially. However, we realise that we're not here to talk about the best golf shirts for 2016 (that will come later), so the timelessly classic Oscar Jacobson Bradley sweater is included instead. With many colours available and as one of the best selling styles over recent years, the OJ Bradley pullover is a great choice of sweater for wearing both on and off the golf course.
In case you haven't seen us raving about Chervo golf wear already, this Italian fashion brand has its heritage in designer ski-wear and if that's not a sign of quality - we don't know what is. Chervo have now been in the golf wear industry for many years and established a strong reputation across Asia and Europe, before finally arriving here in the UK with a stunning 2016 Spring collection. This brand new Chervo Parka golf mid layer has only just arrived online and offers superb comfort levels for on the golf course - also very reasonably priced for such a high quality garment.
Another timeless piece from Ralph Lauren RLX - this mock neck quarter zip pullover is super stretchy, lightweight and warm to wear. A handy chest pocket features to avoid impeding the golf swing, whilst the fresh colour options for Spring 2016 have already gone down a storm online at Golfposer.
Best Golf Mid Layers - For Value
For those on a budget, you won't go far wrong with a Dri-Fit half zip sweater from Nike Golf. Several colour options are available which are sure to provide a stylish finish, whilst the warmth and comfort provided is as good as they come for any golf "basic".
Now for Puma's equivalent. A bit more of a tour look with our unique COBRA branding which is located at the right sleeve, the Puma popover sweater is consistently popular with tour Puma Golf ambassadors and loyal followers of the brand alike. A really nice garment to wear and a great value option, especially with the exclusive branding featured.
