WGC Cadillac: Tournament Preview 2014
Posted at March 6, 2014
Preparations for the Masters 2014 continue this week as the WGC Cadillac Championship takes place at Trump Doral in Miami!
The WGC Cadillac Championship is one of the early highlights on the PGA Tour and there is a stellar line-up ready to put on a show in Miami. Included in the field will be every one of the current top 50 players in the World Golf Rankings and they will have to adapt to the new look Trump Doral course, which has recently had a multi-million dollar renovation in a bid to make it much more difficult for the world's elite. The face-lift has certainly generated a lot of interest and intrigue; who will be able to adjust the quickest and who will show the form required to triumph at Trump Doral?
Tiger Woods, the defending champion, is yet again the one making the headlines in the build-up to the Cadillac Championships. Questions were asked as to whether his fitness troubles would continue after withdrawing with just five holes left to play at the Honda Classic, but Tiger has now confirmed he will continue his Masters preparations in Miami this week and was all smiles when opening the 'Tiger Woods Villa' alongside the Trump family, above. Tiger will tee up alongside Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson for a spectacular three-ball over the first two rounds, which start later today!
The WGC Cadillac is not all about the golf, though. 'Fashion Friday', as it is known, sees a Fashion Show hosted by Ivanka Trump herself and the focus on style has also rubbed off on the pros. Henrik Stenson gave all of his fans the chance to decide which Hugo Boss golf outfit he would wear on the Saturday of the WGC Cadillac and we love this kind of interactivity with the public. We voted for look number two, with the stunning Prek Pro golf shirt in white and blue matched with the Hakan 6 golf trousers in navy. Make sure you keep a look out for Henrik on the course, especially on Friday, to see if he wears the outfit you chose!
Another interesting three-ball, certainly in terms of style any way, sees new Puma Golf compatriots Rickie Fowler and Graham De Laet tee up alongside one another. Having both worn a bit of Beetroot Pink already in 2014, it will certainly be interesting to see if the two Puma stars opt for similar outfits like Rickie did with Jonas Blixt at the Barclays last year.
Other players in with a shot at the Cadillac title certainly include Rory McIlroy, following his narrow play-off loss at the Honda Classic, teeing up alongside Phil Mickelson and WGC Match Play champion Jason Day. Jordan Spieth is also being hotly tipped as not knowing the old course as well as the others will play to his advantage, whilst some have also picked out Graeme McDowell as their one to watch having based himself in Florida - the reasons for which he revealed in his exclusive blog for the BBC earlier this week.
Whatever happens, we are certainly in for a treat at the WGC Cadillac championship this week with the new-look Trump Doral set to test the top golfers in the world to the best of their abilities. Follow all the action with Golfposer and the GP Blog right here.
