WGC Bridgestone Invitational 2014 - Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy is on hot form and we think it might last for many more weeks, months and championships after WGC Bridgestone!

The Open Championship was special. It was a tournament that Rory was yet to win and one that had probably been long overdue. He dominated the field and never really gave anyone else a look in, driving the ball particularly well all week to win by two strokes in comfortable fashion. Inevitable celebrations ensued for days after, but then it was back to the office at Firestone CC for the next big event on the PGA Tour Calendar. The Open Championship fanfare had been and gone, all focus was now solely on securing his first WGC event - one of only two blotches on the CV.

And of course, he went on to win at Firestone, too. Another two stroke victory over the same competitor in Sergio Garcia - with the only real difference between the two being the manner in how Championship Sunday played out. Rory had to come from behind this time with Sergio having led since Friday afternoon - but the same outcome was evident after about three holes. Three quick-fire birdies for Rory hauled him into the lead and stunned the Spaniard, who could only post a solitary birdie on the day that should have been his. Relentless from Rory; perhaps he was getting bored of leading tournaments wire-to-wire.

So, it was a huge win for Rory, but have no doubt where his focus will lay this week. The PGA Championship at Valhalla is the final major of the year and it's difficult to see anyone else coming close - should the same Rory McIlroy turn up. His driving statistics are incredible and, as he has been quoted saying himself, the rest of Rory's game simply falls into place when that happens. Top of the average driving rankings, top of the greens in regulation rankings, top of the world rankings. They all go hand in hand in Rory's case and, with the confidence pulsing through his body with every stroke, who can argue against his chances of more glory at Valhalla this week? Confidence, grit, maturity, unrivalled talent - Rory has it all and he wants to keep it that way.
