The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California, this week hosts the world's best golfers for the 112th US Open Championship in a tournament as unpredictable as ever! With many of the world's top ten in sparkling form recently, each with tournament wins and some fantastic performances, expectations are extremely high for some more wonderful golf. We take a look at some of the players in serious contention and also feature some of the outfits we might expect to see over the four days!
We all know Tiger Woods as had his fair share of troubles in recent years which has clearly had a damaging effect on his game - but during a Google+ 'Hangout' session with fans last month, Tiger claimed to have solved the issues and is re-gaining trust in his swing. This was swiftly confirmed by Tiger's incredible victory at the Memorial Tournament with another unbelievable chip proving his majestic natural ability has not disappeared, fuelling the burning argument of whether Woods is 'back' or not. We think he undoubtedly is with that performance and the US Open could provide the perfect platform to silence any remaining doubters!
Re-instated as World Number One following his emphatic victory at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth - Luke Donald has now firmly set his sights on winning his first Major title and feels closer than ever to achieving his dream. Wearing Ralph Lauren's luxury sports performance line RLX Golf, Luke is sure to be in the mix this weekend with his spectacular short game and outstanding consistency. Below are a few golf outfits we think we might see Luke playing in this week!
Sitting at world numbers two and three respectively, Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood are both also right in with a shot of victory at the Olympic Club this week. The Irishman encountered a bad run of form in the past month with three consecutively missed cuts, but Rory can take much confidence from a solid performance at last week's St. Jude Classic - finishing T7. We believe the Oakley Golf player has a great chance to successfully defend his US Open title which he won so comfortably last year! Druh Belts ambassador Lee Westwood is also coming into the US Open off the back of an excellent five-shot victory at the Swedish Nordea Masters last week and cannot be written off to clinch his first Major Title come this Sunday!
Finally, Golfposer favourite Rickie Fowler has had a fantastic year already so far with five top 10 finishes and his first PGA Tour victory at Wells Fargo in May! Forever lighting up the golf course with his fresh and vibrant Puma Golf clothing - Rickie is in the form of his life and we hope he impresses once again this week at the US Open to be at least in contention come Sunday evening! The outfits you can see below will be worn this week by Rickie and will all be available online from Golfposer this July!
Yesterday, news broke of Paul Casey's withdrawal due to an ongoing shoulder injury which now gives Andy Zhang - aged just 14 - the chance to become the youngest US Open competitor since World War Two! Also, keep an eye out for another favourite Martin Kaymer wearing the very latest Hugo Boss Pro collection - all of which is available here online today!
The US Open is set up perfectly to bring us some fantastic golf - teeing off from 15.00 BST (7am local time) with the top three golfers in the world - Luke, Rory and Lee - heading off at 21.29 BST.
