Claude Harmon III | Custom RS-G
The 149th Open Championship is finally here and to mark the occasion, we've partnered with both PUMA Golf & Nomad Customs to curate a special edition, one-off pair of customised RS-G golf shoes for a friend of Golfposer - Claude Harmon III.
CH3 is one of the world's top golf teachers and when we last caught up with him ahead of The Open back in 2018, he told us all about his love for sneakers and how he especially loved the spikeless sneaker inspired styles that PUMA Golf were bringing to the table every season.
So this year, we wanted to line up something special for Claude ahead of The Open Championship as a celebration of all things PUMA Golf footwear.
As soon as we got our heads together, the design concept for CH3's custom kicks came very naturally.
The 149th Open Championship is being hosted at the wonderful Royal St. Georges - located in the town of Sandwich, Kent, England.
And what's the most quintessentially English sandwich of them all?
The cucumber sandwich.
This year's flagship footwear style is, of course, the PUMA RS-G.
It's a style that all of our team love to wear and likewise, Claude Harmon III, so it was a no-brainer to choose this style for customising ahead of Royal St. Georges.
The RS-G is a spikeless golf shoe which uses the chassis of a famous running sneaker from the wider PUMA sneaker family - the PUMA RS-X3.
It's a style which also lends itself perfectly to being customised and so we drafted in some support from the experts at Nomad Customs to bring our design inspiration to life.
A trio of green shades represents the filling of this most royal of sandwiches; while the accents of light beige represent the crustless, soft white bread which is required for the "perfect" cucumber sandwich.
As an extra nod to the host location, the words "SAND" and "WICH" are printed on the left & right heels - complete with enlarged PUMA Golf & Golfposer GP icon logos just above.
Finally, personalised "CH3" initials are printed on the outer right flank for Claude Harmon III; while "149th" is featured on the outer left as a nod to the tournament itself.
The eagle eyed amongst you might well have already spotted CH3 wearing another GP x Nomad Customs x PUMA Golf RS-G at The Open Championship this week.
That's right, Claude loved the customisation so much that made him another pair - this time based on the seasonal "white x red blast" drop which landed earlier in 2021.
