Martin Kaymer Profile

Who is Martin Kaymer? Find out a bit more about the German golfing sensation right here!

Born on the 28th of December 1984, it actually took German-born Martin Kaymer 10 years to pick up his first golf club. In his hometown of Mettmann (near Dusseldorf), Martin stood on the artificial turf of the local driving range and simply aimed to smash the balls as far as possible. With the game growing on him - Martin joined the local club in Mettmann and also took up golf alongside his football whilst attending Lore-Lorentz school. Eventually he had to give up one of his favourite sports due to training commitments and Martin opted for the more independant option of golf - where he knew he could largely be his own boss and in charge of his own future.

The young Martin Kaymer only really considered converting his sporting hobby into an actual career when he got called up to play for the Noth-Rhine select golf team. It was actually at this point that Martin met German coach Guenter Kessler - who is still his professional coach today! Kaymer had long discussions with his family in Mettmann and made the decision to turn professional in 2005, claiming that his family were behind him every step of the way. Martin currently resides in Rhineland but is often in Arizona at his Scottsdale training complex!

As we learned above, Martin joined his local golf club in Mettmann in 1994 and in 1999 he became club champion for the first time! His early golfing career continued with several wins and top three finishes in many competitions and was part of the German national team between 2000 and 2005 - until he turned professional. In 2007, Kaymer has clocked up 5 top ten finishes on the European tour, followed by 2 wins in 2008 and an even more successful year in 2009 when he won the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond! In 2009, Martin was 3rd in the inaugural Race to Dubai and he excelled even more in 2010 - with arguably his best season to date.

2010 was incredibly successful for Martin Kaymer and he became an integral part of the European dominance in the golfing world. Martin won the Abu Dhabi Championship, the KLM Open, the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and the PGA Championship therefore becoming only the second German to win a major trophy - can you name the other? This was all capped off by a superb performance by Kaymer and the European squad to win the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor!

All of this success led to Martin winning the Race to Dubai and he followed this up with 3rd place again last year! In 2011 Kaymer also stuck his name on the Abu Dhabi Championship trophy for a second year running and also took the spoils in the WGC HSBC Championship in Shanghai! All of this success led Martin to reach World Number 1 status in 2011 for eight weeks and it was at this time that Hugo Boss Green snapped him up to become the face of their golf collection!
