Galvin Green Moment | Trump International Links 2017
Posted at May 18, 2017
We caught up with our most recent Galvin Green Moment competition winner, Gianni Friello, who enjoyed a round of golf at Trump International Links (Balmedie, Scotland) followed by a luxury overnight dinner, bed and breakfast stay at MacLeod House.
Furthermore, we kitted out Gianni with a full Galvin Green outfit to help him dress for the weather - which can be so changeable in the North of Scotland. Check out our interview with him after his ultimate #GalvinGreenMoment experience below...
Galvin Green Moment | Review
Name: Giancarlo Friello
Club: Kilspindie GC, Longniddry
So, Gianni, what was your reaction to winning the Galvin Green Moment competition with Golfposer on Facebook?
I was in total shock, really. I know that there were almost a thousand people who entered and I still can't believe my luck. I play a lot of links golf, especially on the East Coast of Scotland, but I've never had the opportunity to play Trump Aberdeen.
And how did you enjoy the day out on the course? Did you play well?
It was just incredible. A once in a lifetime experience. You could say I played...awesome? I really lit up the course like you've never seen before *laughs*.
What's your style like off the course?
I like to wear a lot of Saint Laurent stuff to be honest. I'm not a brand snob but I definitely have an eye for quality - I'm pretty big on fashion. I'd like to think I'm stylish, at least!
What did you think of the Galvin Green outfit you wore?
I was already a fan of the brand; I have a lot of their stuff from seasons gone by. This was the first time I got my hands on any styles with the newer technologies for this season so I was keen to see how they performed. The colours were cool to wear, really fresh and modern; they suited my style perfectly.
Yeah, both very movable, no restriction with the pants and they both felt really stylish on. The colours worked well together and even though it wasn't necessarily scorching hot outside, I didn't feel clammy or sweaty at any point. I still feel fresh in the clubhouse now.
How did you find the fit?
Really nice for me and I can actually be picky, sometimes! The fit of the polo was good in all the right areas and the trousers looked pretty spot on through the leg. There was plenty of stretch in them too; they still feel comfortable when you squat down to line up a putt and things like that.
How about the Dean Insula Lite pullover, being a lot thinner and lighter than normal?
It felt really good on and I normally hate being restricted when I'm swinging. It was soft on the inside, almost like a brushed fabric, but super lightweight and quite thin as well. The fit was flattering and there was a lot of stretch in the fabric.
Did you find that you were warm enough even though the temperature was only around 13°C today?
I've had an Insula bodywarmer in the past and this definitely felt just as warm, without the dreaded bulk.
Did you need to wear the Brody Windstopper Jacket at any point?
I did, I wore it over two or three holes when the wind picked up on the back nine. I liked the convenience of the full zip, easy enough to throw on and off again.
How did it feel during the swing?
Again, really unrestrictive. It feels soft to the touch and it's quite quiet even during the swing. The best compliment I could pay the jacket is that I didn't even notice I was wearing it - and trust me, I usually notice that when I play!
Can you choose a favourite item from the outfit you received?
*pauses for thought*...this might surprise you, but I'm actually going to say the Windstopper jacket - I love it. I normally hate wearing jackets, full stop. However, the way this jacket felt on was amazing...once I'd got my head around wearing it for actually playing shots. It's changed my perception of wearing jackets for golf and I regret not putting it on sooner today.
What did you think of the course overall?
It far exceeded my (already high) expectations. The scenery is amazing, so picturesque and even better than the photos. I did some research before heading up to Balmedie and I was so excited to play the links, since everyone says it's so outstanding and unique. It definitely didn't disappoint. The rough on those incredible dunes is punishing, to say the least, but the fairways are wide enough and the greens are so true. They were super impressive despite the lack of rain we've had this past month.
Can you choose a favourite hole?
It's got to be the fourteenth, for sure. It's not just for the views, either - it's a wonderful golf hole in itself. Maybe on another, less windy, day - I would have said the (650 yard, par five) eighteenth!
And you'll be staying in MacLeod House tonight, have you had a chance to check out the rooms?
I checked in earlier and they look proper luxurious. They really are something to behold and the interior of the house is stunning, too. I've heard the food is great in the clubhouse so I'm looking forward to our meal...and the rest!
And finally, can you choose three words to describe your overall Galvin Green Moment GP Experience?
I can't swear in this part, can I? That's a hard question...let's go for:
Unforgettable, Amazing and Phenomenal.
In truth, just everything has been exceptional from the course itself to the staff and hospitality on offer here at Trump International. I can't thank the team at Golfposer and Galvin Green enough for hosting the experience day and for every little surprise that has come along with it. Hopefully I can come back here again sometime soon!
Another big thanks to Gianni for joining us in Balmedie, Aberdeen, and we wish to express even more gratitude to the team behind the scenes at Trump International Golf Links and finally to Tom Burlison of Galvin Green. It was another awesome event hosted at another incredible golf course which never ceases to amaze - one which we can't recommend highly enough.
