Castle Stuart Golf Day - The Report
Our latest competition in association with Cobra Puma Golf gave you the chance to enjoy a VIP Experience Day at the wonderful Castle Stuart Golf Club, situated in the North of Scotland and scheduled to host the 2016 Scottish Open. The lucky winner was avid Puma fan Martin Bell, of Douglas Park Golf Club (handicap 3), who brought along his club playing partner Greig McMillan (7). The pair matched up against Team GP - consisting of Andy Coulter (7) and Johnnie Wallace (5) of Cobra Puma Golf.
Castle Stuart Golf Day - The Location
Castle Stuart is simply stunning. Picturesque scenery and a course worthy of hosting any tour event, Castle Stuart links offers a unique experience in the Scottish Highlands with pristine conditioning, the friendliest of staff and ultimately a thoroughly enjoyable course design. The thought process, the workmanship and the attention to detail really shines through and the cleverly constructed layout provides an almost exclusive atmosphere for every group on the course.
Castle Stuart Golf Day - The Outfits
In true Major Championship fashion, we ensured that both teams were scripted to look the part on Sunday (14th June) for the Castle Stuart VIP Experience. Taking inspiration from the US Open Thursday outfits worn by Puma athletes, Team GP were scripted in the peacoat Essential popover, red Puma Tech golf shirts with peacoat navy 6 pocket tech pants; the opposition wore an alternate look of a peacoat Essential popover, the white Puma Tech golf polo and red Tech golf trousers. All four players also wore the brand new Puma Biodrive Leather golf shoes - we'll hear their reviews on those later.
Castle Stuart Golf Day - The Story
It was an early start on a delightful Sunday morning for the quartet who first off enjoyed breakfast & coffee in the immaculate Castle Stuart clubhouse, the ideal pre-cursor for the day ahead. After venturing over to the excellent practice facilities for the customary warm up with complimentary range balls, it was then onto the well-kept putting green to hone the putting skills and get accustomed with the slick greens of Castle Stuart.
With permission granted to play from the white tees, the match-up took no handicaps into account and it proved to be a tight affair early doors, before quickfire birdies from the competitors put team GP on the back foot. The score was eventually poised at 1up for Martin & Greig at the turn. Andy, director of Golfposer, said:
"As well as some good golf getting played on the front 9, most of the time was spent gazing at the stunning course, backdrop and infinity greens."
After some halfway hotdogs and yet more coffee, the players were re-energized and the back 9 kicked off with much more of the same standard on show. M/G went to 2up after yet another birdie on 10 but this was quickly counteracted with a fantastic 2 for A/C on the stunning par 3 11th. The tie then began to go the way of M/G who were simply on fire with a succession of birdies, finally clinching the match with yet another on 16!
Castle Stuart Golf Day - What They Said
The traditional post-round reviews were all discussed over refreshments back in the clubhouse, which included an exquisite two-course meal and reflected everything about Castle Stuart. The course, the weather, the scenery, the golf, the shoes - everything was debated and reviewed with nothing but superlatives used to describe every aspect of the day!
As mentioned earlier, all four players took the opportunity to wear test the Puma Biodrive Leather golf shoes around Castle Stuart. Here's what Greig had to say:
"Despite it being a warm and sunny day, I never felt uncomfortable once. I think this had a lot to do with the shoes - I have never worn Puma and in fact, I have never worn spikeless shoes, but they felt highly breathable and also gave me perfect grip in some difficult terrain up here."
"The shoes were top notch and incredibly comfortable to wear straight out of the box. I have to agree with Greig but I knew all about the reliable performance of Puma shoes already; you didn't miss having "real" spikes at all in terms of traction. I thought these looked really smart and stylish, I'll be wearing them off course for sure."
Andy on Castle Stuart:
"I would like to thank Johnny from Puma and also everyone at Castle Stuart. A special mention too for Jeremy Matte, Director of Golf, for taking our group on a tour of the Castle Stuart facilities and also for showing us the plans for the 2nd course which is being built soon. Jeremy and all the staff made us all feel very welcome and we look forward to visiting real soon."
Martin on the VIP Experience:
"Greig and I would like to express our gratitude once again to both Golfposer and Puma for such a great day on Sunday, it really couldn't have been better."
Martin on Castle Stuart Links:
"Castle Stuart was simply stunning, the location, condition and attention to detail of the layout and features such as the infinity greens made it a really memorable experience. Such a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the club also."
Martin on the Golf:
"10/10. Andy and Johnny were great company - and so gracious in a narrow defeat!"
