AAM Scottish Open 2014 Key Groups

The AAM Scottish Open begins at Royal Aberdeen this week with some of the world's best golfers preparing for the Open Championship!

The organisers at the European Tour have a lot of thanks to pay to big Phil Mickelson. After coming up trumps at the Scottish Open in 2013 and proceeding to triumph at the Open Championship the following week, a major title which had eluded him until then, many of the world's best golfers took note and signed up to play at Royal Aberdeen this year in the hope of following suit. 22 of the top sixty top-ranked players will grace tee up this week and they can each be sure of a warm welcome to the home of golf, Scotland.

As a links course, Royal Aberdeen is a truly stunning track which will provide the perfect preparation for the Open Championship at Hoylake, Royal Liverpool. Mickelson returns to defend his title, whilst fellow American stars Jimmy Walker and Rickie Fowler will generate even more interest from across the pond. Rickie Fowler's Puma partner Jonas Blixt will tee off with Paul Lawrie and former champion Ernie Els, whilst the English contingent of Rose, Donald, Poulter and Westwood will certainly attract the attention of the fans.

Rory McIlroy confirmed his participation earlier this year and will tee off with Jamie Donaldson and Thongchai Jaidee, having just opened up the Nike Performance Fitting Centre at Archerfield yesterday. We all remember how impressive McIlroy was at the European Tour's flagship event, the BMW PGA at Wentworth, and Rory will be striving to emulate Mickelson last year to prepare his game for the testing Open course at Hoylake.

The list of previous Scottish Open champions is quite special, with many major champions and former world numbers ones such as Kaymer, McDowell, Donald and Els featured; who do you think will have their name inscribed on the trophy come Sunday evening?
